| Correspondent Lending |
|
(1.) A lender who delivers loans to a wholesale lender against prior price commitments the wholesale lender has made to the correspondent. (2.) Correspondent Lending is typically used by brokers in an effort to make greater margins on loans. However, this practice also forces the broker to assume more risk in the transaction.
Bankapedia’s Take During the market downturn of 2006 and 2007, many brokers were engaged in correspondent lending and subsequently were forced out of business because they were unable to have their loans bought off their warehouse line.
