Any industry that goes through a surge in popularity the way real estate did is going to bring out some of the worst people out there as well as the worst in people. The level of douchebaggery hit its climax around 2007. Being in Las Vegas, I got a front row seat on the porch just in front of Main St. as the Douche parade roared by. Every other mortgage broker or realtor had himself a leased 7 series or Mercedes SL, a 5,000 sq ft. McMansion with no furniture and some tore up trophy girlfriend that he had convinced he was going to be the next Donald Trump.

It was bittersweet watching the mortgage industry go down in flames. Bitter because, well I was part of it, and my personal fortune was tied to it...but sweet, because for all the smarmy industry dicks that had convinced themselves of their own genius it was time for them to get their comumpance. And get it they did. They filed bankrupcy, had their homes foreclosed on, and their now, not so new cars towed away and repossed. Many moved away, or withdrew back to jobs lower paying jobs they had before.

While the industry is not douchebag free, the people that have toughed it out are the people that were before the run up. So if you are looking for a douche free financing experience, find someone thats been doing this for a good 5 or 6 yrs. It says they treat it as their craft and not a part time endeavor before they move onto the next gold rush.
