The term Loan Origination System, or LOS as it is frequently called, is used to describe the software used by lending professionals for the purposes of entering and calculating borrower Data. Loan Origination Systems have evolved from gray-scale running off of DOS in the 80's to the current OnDemand models that not only allow for data entry of borrower info, but have CRM features, loan matchmaking abilities, and even allow the data to be uploaded directly from the LOS to the lender.

As of 2008 the major players, Calyx Point and Encompass, command a combined 90% of the LOS market, with Calyx Point being the clear leader.
